The most beautiful pictures of Tumalo Falls

Tumalo Falls is a waterfall located in the Deschutes National Forest. It flows into the Deschutes River just north of Bend. Tumalo Falls is a day use area on Tumalo Falls Road, 12 miles west of Bend. West from downtown Bend through the park to Galveston Road, which then turns into Skyliner Drive. Immediately after crossing Tumalo Creek, turn left onto Road 4603 (gravel). Drive 2.5 miles to the Tumalo Falls parking area.

According to Google Maps, Tumalo Falls is 13.5 miles east of Bend and takes 25 minutes. You drive on Skyliners Road for 8.7 miles before veering off onto Tumalo Falls Road, for 2.6 miles of bumpy gravel.

You can get another great view of the falls by hiking up the fairly steep, but short (one-quarter mile) trail to the top of the falls. You will get a better appreciation for the strength of the water flow, and the sound of the falls is impressive.

In winter, all of this waterfall will be frozen. And you maybe not even recognize it anymore.

Under the guidance of Gary Burzell on his blog, if you want to ski on the top of the falls, you can begin at Skyliner Sno-park and proceed to the end of Skyliners Road, then cross the bridge and get onto Road 4603 (the road you would drive up in the summer months), which parallels Tumalo Creek all the way to the falls. It is about a seven mile round-trip to base of waterfall from Skyliner Sno-park.

1. I came to these falls because of the many five-star reviews on TripAdvisor. I was not disappointed. It's only a 12-mile drive west of Bend, off Skyliner Drive in town. That is a two-way street through forested land. The farther from town one gets, the more secluded the road gets. There are several areas where one can disperse camp here as well, once one is in the national forest.

2. We have lived in Bend for nearly 3 years and consider Tumalo Falls a "can't miss" spot for travelers. It's that great!! During the warm months, parking is very close to the main waterfall. If you have the time, hike out beyond the falls to see other spectacular falls besides the main one. Simply gorgeous!

3. We enjoyed a moderate hike to see the Tumalo Falls. The day was warm but not too hot. Trails were well marked and the scenery was great.

4. The falls were beautiful. Enjoyed the short hike up to the top of the falls and the picnic area near the river. We wish we had more time to hike some of the trails.

5. Be sure to wear sneakers or hiking shoes. Beautiful area and you can even walk behind the falls if you don't mind getting wet. Keep going up the path past the falls for even more scenic views. Nice hiking, relatively easy.
